News from Development!

The CAMWorks Product Management team would like to outline its future plans related to operating system support, SolidWorks 2010, and CAMWorks 2010.

Windows XP Retirement:
Due to the fact that Microsoft officially retired Window XP in April of this year, CAMWorks 2010 will be the last release to support both 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows XP. Based on information from SolidWorks, SolidWorks 2010 will also be the last release supporting Windows XP.

CAMWorks 2011 will support Windows Vista and Windows 7 (32 and 64-bit versions) only.

Support for Windows 7
The published release date for MS Windows 7 is 22nd October, 2009. SolidWorks has announced that they will likely have a formal support for Windows 7 in SolidWorks 2010 SP1, which is expected in November. Note that this is not a commitment from SolidWorks, but what they are expecting at this point of time. Based on this information, the earliest version of CAMWorks with formal support for Windows 7 will be CAMWorks 2010, which is expected in December 2009.

Support for SolidWorks 2010
When CAMWorks 2010 is released, it will support SolidWorks 2009 and 2010. However, a service pack of CAMWorks 2009 will be released in November that formally supports SolidWorks 2010.

CAMWorks Solids 2010
Inhouse testing is currently taking place with CAMWorks Solids 2010, and it will be released when SolidWorks 2010 with Windows 7 support is available.

CAMWorks 2010
The beta program for CAMWorks 2010 will begin in October and exciting changes to the program will encourage broader participation from end users and VARs. Watch out for further announcements on CAMWorks.com
